The climb involves approximately 1,200 steps and takes around 1.5 hours round trip. It is moderately challenging. We recommend comfortable footwear and carrying water. Early morning visits are cooler and less crowded.
Photography is permitted at most sites. However, flash photography is restricted inside the Dambulla caves to protect the ancient murals. Always follow signage at each site.
The Cultural Triangle can be visited year-round, but the best weather is from May to September when the north-central region enjoys dry, sunny conditions ideal for outdoor exploration.
